Much like their cocaine, the quality of Peru’s cookies has largely been overlooked. Thanks to a recent grass roots campaign though, which has yielded a rabid following, there seems to be a sudden increase of popularity for this delicacy. Alfajores de Majarblanco, caramel-filled cookies, seem to be the most coveted variety. Phrases like, “melts in your mouth,” “lingering flavor,” “makes your gums numb,” are all used to describe the experience of eating one.
